| Optional Items : You might need a radio pocket if your car came with an add on CD player. |
| Tools required: Wire stripper, Electrical Tape. |
|
This is what your radio should look like. (this is in a golf or jetta the passat will look a little different)
Insert the metra 86-9001 radio removal tool into the slot in the radio until it clicks.
Do the same for the slot on the other side.
Press on the side of the radio where the white line is to release the keys on both sides.
Press the tabs on the side of the black and brown tabs to remove the main harnesses.
Press the tab on the side of the blue connector to release the CD changer harness. The green one is for steering wheel controls so your car might not have it.
Remove the antenna wire from the radio by pulling straight back.
This is what the radio harness should look like.

(I recommend using solder on all the connections below but I know that some of you will be intimidated by solder so it is optional)
You can also avoid any cuting by using an 80-1784 Metra smart cable.Figure out what wires you will be using and cut them down to the same size and trim the shielding back about 1".
Twist the wires as shown
Bend the bundle to the side.
Tape over the expose wire covering one inch on either side.
Do this with the rest of the wires. and tape them all together. Also tape the wires you will not be using to the harness. Take the solid blue wire and connect it to the antenna adapter as shown. If the radio harness does not have a blue (antenna) wire the blue and white (amp) can be used.
I have not take pictures of the final installation yet but they will be up soon.
This should have covered most of your questions.
